How Often Should You Service Your Car in Australia?

“How often does my car actually need servicing?” It’s one of the most useful questions a driver can ask — because regular servicing is almost always cheaper than the repairs that come from skipping it.

The general rule

Most manufacturers recommend a service every 12 months or 10,000–15,000 km, whichever comes first. Some newer vehicles have longer intervals; some performance and diesel vehicles need more frequent attention. Your log book is the definitive guide for your specific make and model.

Even if you barely drive, oil degrades over time and moisture builds up in fluids. A car that does only 5,000 km a year still needs its annual service. Conversely, a high-kilometre commuter may hit the distance limit well before 12 months.
